As a lawyer-mediator, Cecilia “Ceecee” Paizs brings to her practice her knowledge of the law, negotiation skills and her experiences in jurisdictions such as Howard County, Baltimore County, Carroll County, Montgomery County, Baltimore City, Anne Arundel County, Washington County and Frederick County.

In addition, Ms. Paizs has also practiced in Virginia and Florida. Ms. Paizs joined the Maryland Bar in November of 1980. She was admitted to the Bar in Florida in 1987, and in Virginia in 1992 (where she is currently inactive). She completed the MICPEL 40-hour basic mediation course, and the MICPEL domestic mediation course in 2000. She also completed the Collaborative Law basic training in 2006 and a two-day advanced training in the Collaborative Law process in 2007.

Married to a retired military officer, Ms. Paizs gained valuable experience in real estate, contract, employment, corporate and domestic law, both in the state of Maryland and in other state court systems. A mediator since 2000, she spent her first six and one-half years of mediation working in a co-mediation model with Dr. Mike Boyle, a clinical psychologist, as well as mediating on her own. She volunteers as a facilitator for the Howard County Circuit Court.

Ms. Paizs earned her undergraduate degree in government from Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, in 1977. She continued her education at Suffolk University Law School in Boston, Massachusetts, earning her Doctorate of Jurisprudence in 1980, where she was an active member of the Law Student Division of the American Bar Association. During her third year, she held a national position with the Law Student Division.

After law school, she sat for and passed the Maryland Bar exam in 1980, and began working for the Board of Veterans’ Appeals in Washington, DC. Her husband’s Army career took her to Mississippi, Florida, South Korea and Northern Virginia where she held positions as a staff attorney for the Board of Veterans Appeals and the Judge Advocate General of the Army, as well as a glorified paralegal, in-house counsel and benefits manager.

Before opening her own practice, Ms. Paizs worked as an associate at Reinman & Wattwood, P.A. (formerly Reinman, Harrell, Mitchell & Wattwood, P.A.) in Melbourne, Florida, and at Kaufman, Ries & Elgin, P.A., in Towson, Maryland. Her varied work as in-house counsel, in her private practice and volunteer experience gives Ms. Paizs a unique and successful approach to her practice.

In February of 1999, she started her own law practice in Ellicott City, where she concentrates in the area of family law. She is active with the Women’s Bar Association of Maryland, Inc., a past president and current board member of the Howard County Chapter of the WBA and the Howard County Bar Association, a member of the Maryland State Bar Association Family Law Section and ADR Section, the Family Law Committee of the HCBA and the Baltimore County Bar Association, and editor and official photographer for the Howard County Bar Association newsletter, the Barrister.

In addition, Ms. Paizs is a member of the Women’s Law Center. She was an instructor where she thought various mediation courses for the Maryland State Bar Association – Continuing Education Division (formerly the Maryland Institute of Continuing Education for Lawyers [MICPEL]).  She now provides mediation training through the Mediation Center in various areas.  For more information, check the upcoming training page.
