How Co-Mediation Works

The Mediation Center offers a process known as Co-Mediation. Rather than have just one mediator in each session, we would use two individuals with separate, but complimentary backgrounds. One mediator would have experience and training as a lawyer. The second mediator would be a mental health professional or other professional. This approach provides a sense of balance between the legal requirements for an effective solution and the strong emotional component that, in many cases, slows or prevents consensus.

Our professionals are highly skilled at facilitating both process and  outcome. This creates an environment where all parties feel that their position is heard and considered.

Having two mediators in the session also allows for better facilitation of the complex interpersonal dynamics that often occur during stressful conflict situations. It allows our mediators to lay a strong foundation on which to build a bridge to mutual understanding and agreement.
